About the Site
Q: What is this site about?
A: Otherkin Alliance is an online resource and community maintained to both provide information to the general public on the topic of Otherkin, while at the same time providing a resource for members of the Otherkin “subculture”. Questions on Otherkin will be answered further down on this page, but briefly, Otherkin are described as individuals who believe that their souls are, in some way, not ‘human’. There are many different beliefs as to how this is possible, just as there are many different types of “kin”.
Q: Who runs Otherkin Alliance?
A: Adnarel is the founder of Otherkin Alliance (OKA), and acts as the final word on any rules/policies, etc. Our three current Administrators are Adnarel, Qarael, and Cassiel. Administrators have the ability to make and implement new policies after approval by Adnarel. They also act as enforcers of OKA’s rules in the absence of the founder. They have the power to add, delete, and even ban members of OKA. Administrators are the core team of OKA, and their word is final. We remind you kindly that Moderators, (who are not Administrators, and therefore cannont act in official capacity unless otherwise approved by Adnarel) do tend to come and go, as per life situations. Any long-standing member on the forum is eligible for promotion to Moderator.
Q: Who do I contact with a Question/Concern/Site Issue/etc?
A: For general questions on the rules, some of which will be answered later on the page, you may contact any Administrator or moderator, who will answer you as quickly as they possibly can; we do have lives outside of OKA. However, for questions regarding site function or association, such as linking to us or us linking to you or other such exchanges, please first email our staff at OtherkinAllianceStaff@gmail.org.
No moderator or general member of OKA is authorized to serve as an official advocate for OKA without written approval from the administration. For any technical questions or issues, you may email our staff line.
Q: I have an essay/article/picture/poem I would like to see on your main page. How do I go about getting hosted?
A: We’re always happy to host people’s work! However we do have a system in place for doing so. You may log on at any time to OKA’s forum. Go into the “Article Review” section of the forum and post your work there. Don’t worry; OKA takes copyright very seriously, and your work is always protected with us – we pursue violators of copyright very feverishly if they are caught. You may post your article in the review section: and as long as at least one administrator or moderator approves it, it will go up on our main page. Please be patient with us: sometimes it takes us a while to get new articles up and running. If you feel to much time has passed, and your article has not been put on the main page, you may email the staff line as a friendly reminder.
By posting content on the forum, for discussion or to be hosted as main site content, authors agree to share ownership of said content with OKA. As such, should you wish your contribution to be removed from the site or forum, authors must contact the staff of OKA to have it removed. Deleting any content without reaching a prior agreement with the staff of OKA may be viewed as inappropriate conduct, and could be met with disciplinary action. We do this because your contributions are highly valuable and unique, and can greatly benefit the community at large – removing said content withholds help from those seeking comfort and knowledge, which runs contrary to our mission as an organization.
Q: I’ve known for quite a while that I’m kin, and I want to help others. What does your site offer for me?
A: Again, we love helpers! OKA is planning to request volunteers as part of a ‘Kin counselor’ program – a group of dedicated individuals who make themselves available exclusively to newly awakened or troubled kin. You must have a good standing within OKA, be a good listener, and have a history with helping others, either in another group/site, personally, or professionally. You may contact Adnarel for this. Otherwise, simply making yourself available on the forums is great, as well as writing articles to better help people understand who/what kin are. After a time, if you are in good standing with OKA and its administrators, you may be considered for a moderator position. If you have the time for this, please let an Administrator know. You can also help through donations through our Paypal link- see the question below.
Q: I’ve noticed your chat channel has a ‘evaluation version’ notification on it when I go to use it. What’s the deal with this?
A: Sadly, the founders of OKA are poor, and haven’t yet acquired the means to pay for the registration of the IRC channel. We’re hoping to change this soon, but the simple fact of the matter is we don’t have the funds yet. All the site features come from the personal funds of OKA’s founders – please be patient with us, we’ll get there eventually.
Q: How do I go about becoming a Moderator/Administrator? What are the Qualifications?
A: Many people have served as Moderators over the life of our organization. What we look for in a moderator is an ability to stimulate interesting dialogue on our forum, a friendly disposition, and some guts – we want you to enforce the rules. We expect all our moderators to check on OKA at least, bare minimum, twice a week. We also expect all our moderators to have contributed to the content of our site – that is, you must write an article. We do this for a few reasons: One, we want to see that you understand the concepts for which you are working to promote understanding for; two, to make sure that you are contributing to the site and our resources in more ways then just shaking your finger at people, and three, to demonstrate that you can consider a greater whole as well as considering the individual. We want our Mods and our Admins to enjoy being here and helping us to maintain OKA. So far, there’s been little incident on OKA, but it never hurts to have a safety net.
Q: I’ve seen a lot of Otherkin sites out there. What’s the difference between OKA and other sites?
A: Really, there is none. All of these sites exist to provide information, and a way for members of the community to connect to each other. However, Otherkin Alliance’s specific mission is not only to provide information and a way for kin to connect to each other, but to make help available whenever it’s needed. Adnarel is always available if there’s ever a true crisis, and our staff are always reminded to make helping any person who requests it a priority. We take being there for kin very seriously. If any staff member doesn’t respond to a genuine request for help and guidance, contact Adnarel immediately at OtherkinAllianceStaff@gmail.org, as this is an express violation of the purpose and intent of Otherkin Alliance. No staff member should put idle chatter or rank before the needs of others.
Conversely, OKA has had it share of creepy people. Just use your head about it: Mods and Admins don’t appreciate being bombarded by PM’s every time they jump online. We have lives, too. Sometimes we’re just online to check our email, play a relaxing game, or connect with friends. Admins need downtime, so just be realistic.
Q: I registered on your forum, but I cant log on! Why?
A: Over the course of recent months, OKA has had a HUGE problem with spammers to our member list. As a result, Admins must go through and review/approve all accounts manually. Doing this takes quite a long time, and isn’t completely foolproof. Please be patient with us – your account will be approved as soon as possible. Also, should your registration be rejected by accident, please contact the staff directly at OtherkinAllianceStaff@gmail.com, and we will register an account for you manually.
Q: Where do I look for Updates on the site and/or its contents?
A: We post all our updates on the main page of OKA, as well as birthday announcements, events, contests, etc. The main page can be found by clicking the “Home” link on the navigation bar to the left of the page.
